Carl Edwards will be the next "guest host" for WWE Monday Night Raw (TV -- Monday, 9 p.m., USA Network) when the show emanates from Lafayette, La., six days before the Daytona 500.
Edwards, who is on the pole for Saturday's Budweiser Shootout, will follow in the footsteps of fellow NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers Kyle Busch and Joey Logano.
Busch and Logano didn't get great reviews for their stint as "guest hosts" on the Oct. 26, 2009 WWE Raw.
In my JAWBreaker post Oct. 27, 2009, I gave them a "D," saying they "weren't on TV much" and were "unrehearsed on the microphone."
I did like how "the No. 18 and No. 20 car did some burnouts in the parking lot and drove into the arena."
On Thursday, during NASCAR Media Day at Daytona International Speedway, Edwards spoke to my co-worker, Buddy Shacklette.
Here's what Edwards said about WWE Raw:
"It's going to be great to host Monday Night Raw. That will be a blast. I saw that Kyle and Joey did it. I talked to Joey a little bit about it and he said it was a lot of fun. We'll have fun with it. It will be cool to talk to all of those kind of fans about the Daytona 500. That's what it's about is getting the word out that we've got an exciting race coming up.
"Joey's pretty tall, he's 6-foot, 2 or 3, and he said man those guys are huge. He said it's a lot of fun. It's amazing the list of people who have done that, so it's cool to be on that list.
"John Cena and I got to work together on a Gillette commercial and he's a really nice guy. He comes to the races and he's a huge racing fan. Ric Flair is a huge race fan and it's cool to be able to go out and see how they do their business.''
It's interesting that Edwards mentioned Flair, who currently works for a WWE competitor in TNA Wrestling, based in Orlando. But Flair IS North Carolina, so I'll give Edwards a pass since many of the race teams are based there.
